The Euro.Geo Project is supported through the Minerva Action under the Socrates Programme. The project partners are EUROGEO, Liverpool Hope University College, Amsterdam TEacher Training College, University of Bucharest and Nelson Thornes.

Project Aims
The aim is to promote the European Dimension through geographical education. It is concerned with improving the electronic resource base for teaching in and about the countries of Europe..

PROJECT ACTIVITIES
Karl Donert, Preosdent of EUROGEO has taken on responsibility for the coordination of the Minerva Project following the project review in Brussels in 2003. Project activities have been extended until May 2004 in order to complete the delivery of the project products.

Based on the Needs Analysis undertaken in the first 18 months of activity, the project members have been finalising the products of the project and gathering information particularly on:

  • Case Studies where Geography and Citizenship can be supported
  • Map data - seeking to create European regional maps at NUTS1 level. Information for these maps is being gathered and the inteface designed
  • Animated multimedia handbook - this is based on the themes People, Places, Regions Environment and Activities.
  • Database of organisations , curriculum, information and links for Geography and Citizenship and Geographical organisations and activities.

Members of the Euro.Geo project team have participated in a number of conferences, events and activities across Europe, including the Geographical Association conference, Portuguese and swiss Geographical Associations, RGS-IBG and ESRI conference. Further information on these activities and presentations and papers can be seen on the project Web site.

PROJECT EVENTS
Project Final conference 2004: GeoInformation in the classroom
The final project conference will take place in the beautiful town of Blad in Slovenia in Spring 2004. Further details will follow soon by post and online. Project event Funchal: September 2002
Delegates from 24 countries attended the Funchal EUROGEO conference in September 2002, hosted by the APG (Portuguese Geography Teachers Association). The theme was ‘European citizenship and valuing cultural diversity’. A pilot CD ROM of conference presentations and mateirals has been sent to all member associations and participants at the conference.

This Christian Aid Global Gang site links up children from all over the world.

Worldwide Fund for Nature
This new site is intended to help teachers tackle education for sustainable development. With “virtual exhibitions” of pupils’ work, online teachers’ courses and student debates.

The European Children's Trust
The ECT’s @Home site takes classes (for children aged 9-10) on a virtual tour of Moldova.

Online Access for children
Developing both map-reading and information-handling skills, Online Access for Children is aimed at primary pupils.
