Teaching about Places

Geography helps the development of knowledge and understanding of places. This can be achieved when pupils explore their own personal surroundings. By experiencing different locations pupils will begin to develop a sense of place, in other words their relationship to the world around them.

The Internet can be used to promote knowledge and understanding of European patterns and processes in physical and human terms. There are many online travel sources and guides to different places in Europe, the challenge is how to integrate such resources into the curriculum and to generate meaningful activities to promote citizenship.

» Case Studies

Two interactive examples of teaching about Places are provided here (flash plugin required).

These case studies include an animated illustration, ideas for teaching (In the classroom), useful Web sites (Examples) and some thoughts about approaches that might be used (Teaching ideas).
